Oakwood Garden HD-video, 8:48 minutes - 2013 / My Day (Oakwood) HD-video, 4:33 minutes, silent - 2012

'Oakwood Garden' and 'My Day' are part of a larger reflection upon the phenomena of prosperty within idealized urban life models. 'Oakwood Garden' focusses on the garden of a typical luxurious appartment tower that is exclusively built for expatriates and their trailing families in Beijing. The camera views are guided by artificial illuminations in the garden from the perspective of a roamer or a buzzing insect. A composition of electronic sound patterns and ambience sounds such as animal voices, footfalls etc. in a subtle way interfere with the beauty of the imagery and implants an atmosphere of suspense.
'My Day' is set in a typical luxurious appartment tower that is exclusively built for expatriates and their trailing families in Beijing. Sentence by sentence a resident who is obviously without obligations reports on his daily activities. It appears that he is killing time before his wife comes home from work. To escape boredom he tries to draw or paint, however, feeling not inspired he is thrown back to play video games, go work out in the fitness room and prepare dinner for his wife, before it starts all over again the next day. The imagery shows the view out of the appartment window onto a mediocrate urban residential area. Wavering black cable strings slightly interfer with the image. Later, towards the end of this laconic report a black semi-transparent curtain is drawn between us and the world outside the cocoon.
